Stoker, a psychological thriller : I love them always. And what I love even more is the duo of cinematographer Chung Chung Hoon and director Park Chan Wook [박찬욱] in cinema, with most notable works including :
Old Boy, Sympathy for Lady Vengeance, Thirst.
While their films may be categorised into 'dark' cinema piles by some, I appreciate their experimentation in camera angles styles, colours and sound.
It was a privilege meeting and asking about his journey in film from South Korea to presently the USA. His sense of humour was a surprise to the event! He definitely can ‘break the ice’ of language and cultural barriers.
Personally, the highlight from the Q&A was hearing how the duo make films through new strategies, entirely opposing processes completed in their former films. Chung Chung Hoon shared how the duo experiment as a direct response to critiques of their previous films.
They respond to feedback. I have never heard of such a communication from directors and cinematographers to global audiences. I anticipate their individual upcoming films while working in US studios including Boulevard, New World, The Doors, and A Rose Reborn.
